Fall Travel in the Northwoods
No matter if it’s Winter, Spring, Summer or Fall, the Northwoods is always one of Wisconsin’s
best travel destinations, but Fall in Minocqua really is something special. We ask our staff to
give their recommendation for the best Fall activities in Minocqua and here are their
suggestions.
Best Fall Activities in Minocqua
#1 Walk the Bearskin Trail
You may be new to the Minocqua area or you might have visited 100 times, but no matter
what, walking the Bearskin Trail during Fall is a must for any up north vacation. The view from
the old railroad trestles is breathtaking and blooming with Northwoods autumn color. You can
see all the way across parts of both Lake Minocqua and Lake Kawaguesaga from the trestles,
and the atmosphere over the water is unmatched. Take a quick ten-minute walk from the
Bearskin trailhead in downtown Minocqua to both of the major trail railroad trestles and enjoy
the fall colors in all directions. You can walk to the trailhead from our hotel property in about 15-
20 minutes or drive there in less than 5 minutes.
#2 Enjoy a Campfire
Nothing beats enjoying the cool crisp fall air while seated around a campfire with family and
friends. If you’re searching for a hotel with a lakeside campfire then we’re the place you’ll want
to be. Our resort’s campfire area includes 4 Adirondack chairs and benches, ample firewood
(split, stacked and provided free of charge), and a view of Lake Minocqua. Bring along a cozy
blanket and some marshmallows to roast over the open flame. Enjoy the call of the loons on
the lake and the starry night’s sky above.
#3 Canoe or Kayak Lake Minocqua
If you didn’t get the chance to dip your paddle in the water all summer long, canoeing or
kayaking Lake Minocqua during the fall is one of the best times of the year to enjoy it. The
weather is a touch cooler, the water is warm from summer, there is less boat traffic on the lake,
and the fall colors in Minocqua reflecting on the lake is gorgeous! Rent a canoe or rent a kayak,
complete with lifejackets from our Front Desk team and you’re on your way to enjoying a few
hours out on the lake viewing Minocqua from a different perspective.
